How big a pile would 3.5 billion matchsticks be?
Would it be bigger than a house? A mansion, a castle? Who knows for sure?
I can’t imagine how much ground 3.5 billion grains of sand would cover.
How big then would a pile of 3,500,000,000 dollars be?
That is the estimated revenue figure being predicted by the accredited Juniper Research for 2021, up from 1.8 billion this year, 2017.
Juniper conclude that advertisers will be the ones who benefit most and believe Lets Play viewers will be watching ad-supported casual games streams in their millions.
This goes in tandem with eSports viewership through Twitch and You Tube
Juniper also say that eSports has just started to be monetised through alternative means, adding that merchandise sales, time-limited content such as in-game items and access passes will form part of a wider industry growth trend.
I get the feeling that no one knows for sure which way the industry is heading, but the more money that sloshes around the outcome can only be better gaming experiences for gamers.
Game creators are sure to have their noses in the trough when the figures being bandied around are available.
Now then, I’ve got a fair sized van. I wonder how many of those, ahem, ‘matchsticks’ I could squeeze in?
